The department also manages the County’s computer network and a central data processing operations center twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Ongoing projects include mainframe system and software upgrade, telecommunications and wide-area networking, client/server application development, and electronic forms processing.
Information Technology provides services that coordinate with the enhancement of technology as the environment mandates. The role of the department has changed over many decades. The technology department serves as the artery to every department within a local government. It is our position to empower, train and lead our users to technology.
The intense demands placed on technology are critical as we prepare our users and environment for the forever-evolving doors of changes in technology. We are very ambitious about meeting the needs of the Board of Supervisors, County Administrator, State Agencies, and Federal Entities.
We are required to complete the deadlines and requirements listed as given in each project. As we make changes in our technology to be more compatible, it is the responsibility to coordinate with each affected department. The assures that the specific technical demands of each department's project are required as it is blended and requested.
The vision of the Department of Information Technology is to lead the County in the creation and implementation of technology solutions that improve the IT infrastructure, public safety, citizen engagement, and overall government services. The department is consistently collaborating with other local government agencies to keep Charles City in alignment with the necessary technology demands from state and local governments.
